MEETING NIGHT IN AMERICA!
- SSCC OHIO
Last night we had a great meeting with tons of eye candy to drool over and plenty of gear to buy and sell. A great time was had by one and all. One important piece of news came out of formal "BUSINESS MEETING", FIGURECON 11 - 2019 will not be on the first weekend of March do to a scheduling conflict. The 2019 Figurecon will be held MARCH 23rd and 24th at the Entertrainment Junction venue. Make plans now to attend. You won't want to miss it.

First up, we have this .30 cal. machine gun team put together by Panzercommander. The figures represent a team from Easy Co., 2/506th, 101st Airborne Division as they would have appeared in Normandy on D-Day, 1944. As usual, Panzercommander has put together an incredibly accurate set of figures to represent D-Day paratroopers. There is some beautiful detail here from the uniforms to the real metal .30 machine gun. Great job Fred, these guys look outstanding.
Panzercommander's final display - the figures with a selection of reference books used in their creation. Outstanding work!
Next, we have J. Kidd with a selection of WWII American figures - Regular Infantry, American Ranger and Paratroopers - all troops that fought on D-Day. John has done a really nice job of putting together an interesting and varied selection of well detailed figures. Nice job buddy!
Gray Ghost put together these British Armor figures in anticipation of starting his Daimler Dingo project. He used an H&C reference book for inspiration. The middle figure has a custom helmet that Gray Ghost reworked from a British Para Helmet. It is a really sharp and unique detail. Very nice work.
Gray Ghost also displayed this sd.kfz 222 German Armored Car that he recently acquired from fellow club member Cory Lord. Though this particular one is painted for desert service, it is representative of German armored vehicles that fought in the Normandy campaign. This particular model was created by Mardon Callenta and was completed by Cory. It's a really nice piece.
George K. Had these two American paratroopers on display that he had kitbashed using a variety of different manufacturer's products. I like the variation in uniform color. Very nice George!
Club President, Hammer Six had this great looking German Staff Car (don't ask me what it's called, I have no idea, but it was totally cool). The vehicle appears to be all metal with possibly some resin thrown in here and there to make it even heavier. This thing weighs a ton, but as I said, it is very, very cool. I particularly like the fact that not only do the doors work, the trunk opens as well. That is where the other side windows are being stored.
Okay... On to other subjects, first up is KING TIGER with a WWI diorama that he laughingly called "FRENCH TOAST". This dio features a German soldier with a flame thrower about to set ablaze a French trench position. The French soldier does seem a little put out by the German's gesture.
This is just a really cool diorama. I like the woodwork and weathering that King Tiger has done, creating the floor and side of the french. It looks really sharp. I could see a whole series of these small dioramas, featuring two to three soldiers in various activities. It's a great concept.
One of our newest club members, Cindy, likes to bash uniforms and gear on traditional G.I. Joe figures, which is kind of unique, but in a way nicely ties her various subjects together. Here are several that she displayed last night, while working on a figure during the meeting. On the left a couple British SAS guys, one North Africa themed and the other ETO. On the right a couple of Russian soldiers. These WWII figures are flanking a Jedi Knight in the center. I am not sure what the figure behind him is, but there is an American WWII pilot behind the Russians. Nice work Cindy, as always!
George K. also displayed this modern American Soldier. It features a nice selection of high quality uniform and gear pieces.
This is my Taowan MRAP and Hasbro Humvee (99% complete) making their one and only club appearance together. The MRAP weighs somewhere between 60 and 70 lbs and now that it is back in my basement, that is where it is staying. You can see more about the Humvee project on my blog on my website - www.pointmansprivy.weebly.com
The Mad Dr. Zorkon never disappoints and he had some great stuff at this month's meeting. First we get his British Guards Marching Band, which is just too cool. It is amazing that he was able to put together that many uniforms, much less find instruments for them to play. It is a really nice display.
Next is this tribute to the 60's TV show - I Dream of Jeannie. Featuring Barbie Jeannie and Major Nelson. The Jeannie figure came with a traditional Barbie body, so Mark switched out the body for a articulated one so that Jeannie could do her magic floating trick. Major Nelson is wearing a Hasbro Mercury Astronaut uniform. Its very clever.
The Good Doctor seems to defy gravity with his last display, but there is actually a rod holding up that Magic Carpet. It is a really cool idea and very unique. Excellent job buddy!
And that is it for this meeting update. It was a great meeting and there was plenty on display. I managed to leave some hard earned cash with more than one club member as well, but that's pretty much situation normal. - PM out!
