Up first, Hammer Six (Dick) brought these three Waffen SS soldiers, a machine gun team that he bashed for the meeting. Love the camo.
We had a good meeting on Wednesday evening. Here are some shots from the meeting. I apologize for the darkness of these first shots, lot of sun coming through the windows, should have closed the blinds. Up first, Hammer Six (Dick) brought these three Waffen SS soldiers, a machine gun team that he bashed for the meeting. Love the camo. Dr. Zorkon (Mark) entertained us with some female figures that he put together, using a variety of sculpts and a new Mattel Barbie body that has made a recent appearance. This body is more articulated than anything that they have done to date and I am sure will be snapped up wherever and whenever they hit the shelves. Imagine a Barbie that will actually stand up on its own. Might want to watch out for the two below. The one on the left is a little scary. Well, actually... they are both a little scary in their own way (lol). Point Man (Mike) brought an old piece that he has not displayed in a very long time. This is his special forces Mutt, modeled after desert mutts as they might have been used in Desert Storm. Mike also brought these four Waffen SS soldiers that he bashed. These were actually sold to Hammer Six at the meeting. They were bashed with various Dragon uniforms and gear on four Dragon figures. George brought one of his newest purchases, a BBI F-15 Cockpit. These things are really hard to find these days (oldie, but goodie). This is one beautiful piece, no doubt about it. George also Brough three PMCs that he has been working on. Love the sculpt on that guy on the right. Nice job George! Jack brought this Michael Myers from the movie Halloween. Jack bashed the figure and I've got to tell you I haven't even seen the movie and it creeped me out. Beautiful job. Jack also brought a "mini-me" creation. This is a figure he bashed of himself, wearing gear and uniform that he work in the Marine Corps. This is such a cool figure and one of my favorite displays for this month's meeting. Nice job Jack. And that's it for July. Join us for our next club meeting, August 7th. Doors open at 5:15 pm. Direction Info is available on this website.

On Wednesday evening we had our monthly SSCC Meeting. We were small in number due to folks working, weather, etc, but it was still a great meeting and there was plenty of stuff to see. We'll start with Club President, Hammer Six's display. Dick brought a trio of GOLDEN OLDIES. Classics from the early days; all German of course. We start with a figure called Paul by Dragon. This figure was from those days when Dragon was trying to transition from basic figures to something a little more upscale, so it has a combination of items (some basic, some more refined). This figure was actually a favorite of mine and I have one in my collection. Next was this German Wehrmacht officer made by (believe it or not) Hot Toys. This was definitely an upscale figure for the time, with leather gear and a real cloth hat. I have never seen this figure before, I didn't know that Hot Toys had made any Germans. A really nice early German figure from IN THE PAST TOYS. According to Dick this figure was modeled on a real life person. I don't remember this figure either, but the quality it quite a bit better than some of their offerings, especially the cap. Point Man brought this ETO version of the SAS Jeep by Dragon. His purpose in doing that was trying to build in himself some enthusiasm for British figures again. Mike says it's time to get started on his DINGO again, he just can't seem to build up the will to tackle it. Anyway, the Dragon SAS Jeep is a very cool model. Mike also brought these two figures that he put together during the meeting. The one on the right is a PMC made of various items from a variety of manufacturers. The figure on the left is a news photographer, also using a variety of items from the parts box. George K. brought these four figures that he has been working on. The one on the left is a PMC, which for some reason, I didn't get a larger shot of (Sorry George). George bought a 3D printer a while back and has been experimenting with trying to make a variety of items. Here we see a really nice propane tank, a pointing hand and an assault rifle - all made on George's printer. Cindy brought some bashes she has been working on. A Joe wearing a Patton uniform (Dragon), A German Pilot and a British soldier from the Falklands War. Also on the right is another figure she was working on at the meeting, a Greek Soldier. The helmet and shield are really cool. New club member, Jack, brought this bashed figure that portrays a character from RESIDENT EVIL. I am not familiar with Resident Evil or the character, but I know cool when I see it. This guy looks awesome and the stuff that nightmares are made of; you wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley (or a light one for that matter). Nice work Jack. Panzercommander brought a figure to work on, but it was still a WIP when I had to pack up for the evening. He was putting together a supply sergeant to show off these beautiful handmade crates that he had acquired. As is his custom, plenty of work will go into the figure and the vignette before he considers it done and I am really looking forward to seeing the final pictures. Here's a closeup of the crates with a couple of real metal 50 caliber ammo cans in one of them. These are just outstanding. And that is it for the May meeting. If you live in the area and can make our June meeting, we would love to have you join us. We meet the first Wednesday of each month and there is a page on this website with more information. - PM out
For the April meeting, we were a little light in the attendance category coming off the March FIGURECON. That is to be expected. The show was not even two weeks ago. But those who were able to make it out to the meeting had a good time and I got a few pictures. We start with me (Point Man). These are some modern troops that I am in the middle of bashing to add to my Humvee/MRAP unit. I haven't detailed them out yet, but I finally decided on the three figures that I was going to use.
Next, Mark (Dr. Zorkon) brought this cool robot figure. The detailing and painting on this figure is really well done and it sort of reminds me of that "I Robot" movie with Will Smith. I can think of all sorts of applications for this figure in my comics. Very cool Mark! Club President, Dick (Hammer Six) brought his newest Uncle Adolph figure from 3R. This figure is really well done. The sculpt is right on in MHO. And they give you enough stuff for 2 versions. With an extra sculpt and you could do two figures. The set also comes with this really unique National statute and a pillar to set it on, as well as a Nazi flag. The Statute and pillar are most likely made of polystone, based on the weight and would need extreme care when handling. All in all, a really nice set. George K, displayed this Jeep, which he bought off of me at the beginning of the meeting (thanks George). He is displaying it with an African American tanker figure that he bashed. Fred knew the unit that this guy is supposed to be in; I confess, I do not remember. The Jeep is a late 90's/early 2000s Hasbro Jeep and has been modified with a stowage bin on the back and some radios and other details. George also Brough these three guys that he was working on, Left to Right; a modern day Marine, an African Fighter and a German FJ Paratrooper. Down in front, those two things that look like candles were an attempt at 3D Printing scale Propane tanks. The tank itself worked out fine, but the valve on top presented some problems. Gregory brought a couple of items. On the left a quarter scale Dare Devil figure and on the right, still in the box a 1/12th scale Street Fighter figure. I don't know anything about the Street Fighters, Gregory would have to fill you in on that, but I am familiar with the comic book version of Dare Devil and this is pretty cool. The figure comes with some hand options and weapons, but I particularly like the alternative head sculpt and the hand holding the mask. Nice little detail that would look very cool in a display. Next was John (J.Kidd) with his D-Day trio of troops. These guys were all bashed out to storm the beaches of Normandy. The two figures on the left are a light machine gun team and on the right we have a radio man with a walkie talkie. I really like the use of the belt life preservers and the gas mask bags. Nicely done John. And that was about it for this meeting. I didn't get a picture of the figures that Cindy was working on, a couple of WWII Russians and I apologize to Cindy. Mrs. Point Man and I had to rush out before she had them ready for pictures. Hopefully Fred got a couple of shots. That's all for this month. - PM
George K. has been working on Vietnam War U.S. Marines for a diorama that he is planning to do for the Entertainment Junction show. These are three work in progress pieces that he has been working on most recently. I really like to two African American sculpts. I don't know where he got them, but the sculpts are incredibly life-like. The one one the right reminds me of the character of Johnson from the TV show; Tour of Duty. Very nice work. Here is Point Man's weathered and detailed M2A1 Half-track. It has only been sitting around since August, waiting to be finished and he finally decided that it was time to complete it (no more excuses). Here the LT get some information from a couple of local French wood cutters. The scratch built fighting compartment is considerably bigger than the Hasbro version and scales nicely to the 21st Scout Car (which is what was used for the front end of the vehicle). However, it is still a tight fit. Point man had to use some extremely flexible/thin body figures to get the troops seated in the back. It's a squeeze, but it works. This month, Cindy brought four figures that she had been working on. The first was a German Heer Tanker; very nicely done. Second was a Civil War Joe, wearing a uniform and gear from Battlegear Toys. Nice stuff to be sure. Gray Ghost brought some 4th Armored figures that he has been working on. Vehicle crewmen for our 37th Tank Battalion group. They all look real sharp. I really like those rubber boots that the officer is wearing (on right). They look real sharp. These are all great looking troops for the unit. Nice job Phil!
And to conclude, Panzercommander had his traveling WWII Store there for us WWII guys to drool over. So many plastic bags, so little time. Thanks for the rifles Fred. And that is it for this month. We will have a meeting at the beginning of March as usual and the show at Entertainment Junction will be March 23 and 24. Hope to see you there. We had a great January meeting - Well attended and lots of eye candy for everyone. Here are some of the highlights. You can see more at the club Facebook page. Below are some of the sale goodies that we at the meeting. This was Panzercommander's sale table and he had some real goodies; I should know, he got quite a bit of my Christmas money. J. Kidd bashed these three D-Day timeframe Rangers and a 101st Airborne trooper from the Market Garden Operation. Nice job John, they look really sharp. Gray Ghost bashed these Korean War American Infantry Soldiers in Cold weather gear using uniforms and gear from the Soldier Story figure and a smattering of other items. He's calling it a work in progress, but it is looking pretty good to me. This is part of a Korean War display that he is planning for this year's ETJ show in March. These three Shermans are part of Point Man and Gray Ghost's 37th Tank Battalion. At the November meeting they were still working on the builds. Here they are freshly painted and lettered, just needing some weathering and detailing to finish them up. The lead tank is Point Man's, the other two belong to Gray Ghost. The three tanks belong to 1st Platoon, Company B. There is a fourth Sherman in the unit as well, but Point Man didn't have enough room to bring it too. Hammer Six showed these Waffen SS motorcycle troopers. This is just one of nine or ten motorcycles in the unit that Hammer is building. The motorcycles were all painted and weather by Cory Lord and are beautiful pieces. The troops are being assembled by Hammer Six. It is going to be one impressive looking unit when it is completed. Cue the James Bond Theme - Dr. Zorkon showed off his latest find, Goldfinger from the Bond Movie of the same name. This is really a sharp looking figure, very well done. Below, the Doctor has created a "Kid Mad Scientist" using pieces from a Barbie Lab and a Jenny Weasley from the Mattel Harry Potter series. A clever idea. Cindy displayed these four figures that she had recently worked on - (left to right) an Afrika Korps soldier, Desert Storm U.S. Infantry, Luftwaffe Officer and a German Doctor. Cindy typically uses vintage type Joes for her bashes; she likes the way the clothes look on them. In this group the guy on the left is the exception, a BBI figure. Panzercommander brought a couple of 4th Armored figures. These figures are extremely sharp looking with really nice details. The inspiration for the figures was the piece of art shown below from a 1/35th Scale figure box. They look really sharp and I think it is cool that he even found a sculpt that looks very much like the Captain in the artwork. Nice job! George K wowed us all with this metal cargo truck. What a cool piece. He intends to paint it OD and fill it up with Vietnam era Marines, which will be even cooler in my humble opinion. It is really a sharp looking piece though. The seats fold down in the cargo area and the slats are actually wood. I've got to say, if I had room, I'd find me one of these (I probably wouldn't be able to lift it though). George also showed his latest bashes - a special forces soldier, a WWII Pilot and Dragon's Mitch, modern pilot. All very cool. And that's the SSCC's January eye candy. It was a great meeting and everyone had a good time. If you live in the area, think about joining us for the February meeting. We'd love to have you.
I apologize that this meeting update is a little slow in coming. Out of town SSCC member Cory Lord and his wife Judy came up to Columbus to spend the rest of the week with us after driving up from Georgia to attend the meeting. We had a week of antiquing, hockey and football and I didn't getting around to doing the update. That accounts for why the update is half a week late... well, the other half I have to chalk up to Autumn leaves, so without further explanation, here's the update.
Dr. Zorkon brought this very creepy looking Hannibal Lecter figure. Mark always find some unique to display at every meeting and this is no exception. But it did creep me out and I have never even seen the movie.
FInally, Point Man and Gray Ghost brought their work-in-progress Shermans that they have...uhhh....been working on. The top two pictures are of Mike's Sherman, which is a little further along and pretty much is ready to be painted. The bottom shot is of Phil's Sherman, which is not quite as far as long, but is getting close. Both Mike and Phil have found the Dragon Sherman to be a challenging build because of some issues with the model, but mostly due to poor instructions. And that's it for the month of November. It was a great meeting. We had a lot of members there and there were a couple of demos as well. Point Man did some sculpt painting and G. Klayer brought his new 3 D printer and showed us how it worked.
I apologize that there was no Meeting Update for October, I was unable to attend. If you have not seen those pictures you can view them on the club facebook page. I will be at the December meeting and I hope to see you there. If you live near the Cincinnati area, please join us. Doors open at 5:00 pm the first Wednesday night in December. Directions can be found on this website. Great meeting on Wednesday. We had a pretty good crowd as well as a special guest (more about that below). We start with a cool WIP garage from Dr. Zorkon. The Doctor has been asked to do a diorama for a upcoming car show. This is where he's at as of the meeting. The garage is constructed of chip board and the Doctor as added details to the basic structure. Eventually, there will be more interior detail as well as a parking lot with additional cars. But this is really a cool start. The second picture shows the car bay from a slightly different angle. Here we get a closeup of that mechanic working on the hot rod. I love the overalls. A very cool detail. Here's the outside of the building from a slightly different angle. Those giant oil cans came from Hobby Lobby by the way. The building even includes a bathroom with toilet and sink. I don't think I have ever seen one quite as clean as this one, hats off to the management. The doctor is going to also have a fence on one side of the diorama and the fence with have auto themed signs on it. For the meeting he created this little scene with grass, a park bench, peeing dog and one of his fabulous scratchbuilt trees. Nice job buddy! Our special guest, Dennis Widner, the TOY SURGEON, came all the way from Sout Carolina to attend our meeting this month. He brought a lot of sales goodies, but he also brought some eye candy for everyone to enjoy. This figures were just outstanding. Have to admit, my favorite was this OSW Contest Winner, the American Tanker figure in the foreground. This was one sweet bash! Of course Dennis is famous for his custom crates and this is some of what he brought to show off. Beautiful work, the pictures don't do it justice. I love the lettering done with his own custom decals, but the paper labels were beautiful too. Thanks Dennis for coming to the meeting and sharing your work. We all appreciated you taking the time and making the drive. Club member, George K, brought some WIP items as well. Here we have a 21st Century Special Forces Ford Mutt with a couple of Navy SEALs that he bashed for the meeting. I've always like the 21st Ford Mutts, they are great for customizing and detailing and don't take up a lot of space. Here we've got another bash that George is working on, a Dragon figure outfitted as a German Paratrooper. George still has detailing to do, but he has gotten a good start on this one. The final WIP project of the night was from Gray Ghost and Point Man. Over a period of three weeks they have created three M2A1 Half-tracks, using the front section of a 21st White Scout Car, the running gear from the Hasbro Half-track and a scratchbuilt fighting compartment. The M2A1 was approximately a foot longer than the White Scout Car and the White Truck Company build the first M2s, so it is logical that they used some of what they already had. These miniature WHITES scale out approximately 2" longer than the 21st Scout Car (a scale foot). Point Man maintains that they are scale to the White Scout Car from 21st, but feels that there is probably some "Selective Compression" applied to that vehicle. All that said, these things dwarf the Hasbro Half-track. Here's some of the gear that Point Man has assembled for his radio equipped HT. He's still got a few more things to find and build. This one got the later bumper with the wench due to the fact that there were only two of the earlier bumpers available.
And that's it for the September meeting. It was a great time and plenty of eye candy to look at. Hope you can make it for the October meeting if you are in the Cincinnati area. First Wednesday of the month, doors open at 5:15 pm. Well... I'm running about a week behind on getting the meeting update online, but here it is. We start off with Hammer Six's beautifully detailed MARDER II. This baby has been featured before. But Hammer Six finally got his crew together and wanted to display it with figures and additional details. I will let the following pictures speak for themselves, but Hammer has loaded this baby down with all kinds of cool stuff and done a beautiful paint job as well. Outstanding work old buddy! Next we have a group of five Joes kitted out by Club Member Cindy. I think I have mentioned before that she likes to use Vintage style Joe bodies because of their smaller stature. She feels that the clothing fits them really nice. I sure can't argue with her assessment. These guys all look great. I especially like the medic figure. Club Member , George had a variety of figures too, including a California style Cop, a 21st Viet Cong, a bashed U.S. Special Forces trooper, also from the Vietnam era and a modern day PMC. George also brought his newest purchase, a Hasbro Humvee. He has big plans for this baby. George and Point Man have been communicating by email about Humvees during July, so Point Man decided to bring his Humvee for another round of oohs and ahs, never get tired of those. The crew of the Humvee obviously made a quick stop at the PX before heading out on their mission if the boxes of water, cigarettes and candy bars are any indication. Hammer Six also brought these two heads that he just got. I don't remember who manufactured these, but I thought the expressions were great and I really liked the paint job on the eyes. The pictures just doesn't do them justice. Club Member Gregory brought this great looking 1/4 scale Dark Knight. It was pretty impressive both in size and attention to detail. And to finish off this month's eye candy, Dr. Zorkon brought these two bashed female figures. Outstanding work as always by the good doctor. I particularly thought the sculpt on this first one looked incredibly lifelike. And that concludes this month's meeting update.
Due to the holiday on Wednesday, the monthly SSCC meeting was held on Thursday, the 5th of July. It was a good group and we had a great meeting. Plenty of stuff to see and we'll start with the figures I brought (Point Man). This is a group of Korean War era U.S. Soldiers, seen from 2 slightly different angles. The figures were bashed on Dragon figures, using boots, coats and some hats from the Soldier Story figure that I picked up at War Toys. The gear was WWII Dragon issue and was painted olive with acrylic paint. This beautiful Waffen SS figure was put together by King Tiger. Dean bashed this figure using product from several different manufacturers. He then set it into this really nice scenic base to create an awesome looking vignette.
Next, Mark wowed us with this Albert Einstein bash. He started with a headsculpt that he picked up online and created the rest with an outfit from a Barbie (Ken) figure and a Dragon body. The blackboard is a piece that he previously had created for a "Professor Jones" display. J. Kidd was in Star Wars mode and displayed these really cool Imperial figures. The to shot shows his Side Show Governor Tarkin with a character from the movie Rogue One (I don't remember this character's name). That figure is actually a Disney product, but it is very nicely done. John also had this awesome looking Side Show Darth Vader and Imperial Snow Troopers. The Vader figure had some nice light up features, like the light saber. Very cool indeed. CINDY had this really nice looking line of Joe bashes that she was working on. All Joe bodies, but with a variety of uniforms and gear from Dragon and other manufacturers. She likes to do all of her figures on Joes for a uniform look in the figures themselves and she likes how the Dragon uniforms fit on the slightly smaller Joe bodies. I have to agree they look great. I particularly liked this bashed motorcycle rider. Nice ride! Gregory brought this 1/12th T-Rex that he found, a release based on the new Jurassic World movie. It is pretty cool, even if it is 1/12th scale and all of us agreed that it could be used in a 1/6th scene as a smaller dinosaur. Even smaller, he would still be rather intimidating. Pretty neat. George had these totally cool mercenary type figures that represent characters from a video game. I am not familiar with the game, but I sure thought the figures were cool...especially because as "bad" as these guys look, they are the good guys. Can't imagine what the bad guys look like. The level of detail on these figures was pretty amazing. I really love the tattoos and that belt buckle on the figure on the left (above/below) is just really nice. The masks are pretty cool too. I would not mess with these guys. Club President, Hammer Six had a nice collection of Waffen SS Figures on display. First, were these two infantry officers. He found the uniforms online at a greatly reduced price and bashed the two figures. These German SS Tankers , show from two slightly different angles are his Panzer IV crew. They are all wearing leather uniforms and represent a crew from the 12th SS Panzer Division in Normandy. Very nicely done. Next we have this 3rd Infantry Division corporal riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Panzercommander put the figure and his ride together at the meeting to build this nice display. The figure is absolutely amazing as are all of Panzercommander's bashes and the motorcycle is incredible. The detail on this thing is just spectacular! Lastly, Gray Ghost brought a work in progress to show. He is cutting out parts to create a scratchbuilt Daimler Dingo, like the one that Point Man showed at a previous SSCC Meeting. Phil is just about ready to start assembling his. And that wraps up the July meeting. Some great stuff as always, looking forward to the next one.
MEETING NIGHT IN AMERICA! - SSCC OHIO Last night we had a great meeting with tons of eye candy to drool over and plenty of gear to buy and sell. A great time was had by one and all. One important piece of news came out of formal "BUSINESS MEETING", FIGURECON 11 - 2019 will not be on the first weekend of March do to a scheduling conflict. The 2019 Figurecon will be held MARCH 23rd and 24th at the Entertrainment Junction venue. Make plans now to attend. You won't want to miss it. First up, we have this .30 cal. machine gun team put together by Panzercommander. The figures represent a team from Easy Co., 2/506th, 101st Airborne Division as they would have appeared in Normandy on D-Day, 1944. As usual, Panzercommander has put together an incredibly accurate set of figures to represent D-Day paratroopers. There is some beautiful detail here from the uniforms to the real metal .30 machine gun. Great job Fred, these guys look outstanding. Panzercommander's final display - the figures with a selection of reference books used in their creation. Outstanding work! Next, we have J. Kidd with a selection of WWII American figures - Regular Infantry, American Ranger and Paratroopers - all troops that fought on D-Day. John has done a really nice job of putting together an interesting and varied selection of well detailed figures. Nice job buddy! Gray Ghost put together these British Armor figures in anticipation of starting his Daimler Dingo project. He used an H&C reference book for inspiration. The middle figure has a custom helmet that Gray Ghost reworked from a British Para Helmet. It is a really sharp and unique detail. Very nice work. Gray Ghost also displayed this sd.kfz 222 German Armored Car that he recently acquired from fellow club member Cory Lord. Though this particular one is painted for desert service, it is representative of German armored vehicles that fought in the Normandy campaign. This particular model was created by Mardon Callenta and was completed by Cory. It's a really nice piece. George K. Had these two American paratroopers on display that he had kitbashed using a variety of different manufacturer's products. I like the variation in uniform color. Very nice George! Club President, Hammer Six had this great looking German Staff Car (don't ask me what it's called, I have no idea, but it was totally cool). The vehicle appears to be all metal with possibly some resin thrown in here and there to make it even heavier. This thing weighs a ton, but as I said, it is very, very cool. I particularly like the fact that not only do the doors work, the trunk opens as well. That is where the other side windows are being stored. Okay... On to other subjects, first up is KING TIGER with a WWI diorama that he laughingly called "FRENCH TOAST". This dio features a German soldier with a flame thrower about to set ablaze a French trench position. The French soldier does seem a little put out by the German's gesture. This is just a really cool diorama. I like the woodwork and weathering that King Tiger has done, creating the floor and side of the french. It looks really sharp. I could see a whole series of these small dioramas, featuring two to three soldiers in various activities. It's a great concept. One of our newest club members, Cindy, likes to bash uniforms and gear on traditional G.I. Joe figures, which is kind of unique, but in a way nicely ties her various subjects together. Here are several that she displayed last night, while working on a figure during the meeting. On the left a couple British SAS guys, one North Africa themed and the other ETO. On the right a couple of Russian soldiers. These WWII figures are flanking a Jedi Knight in the center. I am not sure what the figure behind him is, but there is an American WWII pilot behind the Russians. Nice work Cindy, as always! George K. also displayed this modern American Soldier. It features a nice selection of high quality uniform and gear pieces. This is my Taowan MRAP and Hasbro Humvee (99% complete) making their one and only club appearance together. The MRAP weighs somewhere between 60 and 70 lbs and now that it is back in my basement, that is where it is staying. You can see more about the Humvee project on my blog on my website - www.pointmansprivy.weebly.com The Mad Dr. Zorkon never disappoints and he had some great stuff at this month's meeting. First we get his British Guards Marching Band, which is just too cool. It is amazing that he was able to put together that many uniforms, much less find instruments for them to play. It is a really nice display. Next is this tribute to the 60's TV show - I Dream of Jeannie. Featuring Barbie Jeannie and Major Nelson. The Jeannie figure came with a traditional Barbie body, so Mark switched out the body for a articulated one so that Jeannie could do her magic floating trick. Major Nelson is wearing a Hasbro Mercury Astronaut uniform. Its very clever. The Good Doctor seems to defy gravity with his last display, but there is actually a rod holding up that Magic Carpet. It is a really cool idea and very unique. Excellent job buddy! And that is it for this meeting update. It was a great meeting and there was plenty on display. I managed to leave some hard earned cash with more than one club member as well, but that's pretty much situation normal. - PM out!
