Meeting Night 12/8

12/12/2010

Well, I am kind of late on getting this Update out there as I didn't post on Thursday night. Here are a few pictures from the meeting on Wednesday night...

First up is this great vehicle from Hans Albin. He told us what this thing is and I didn't write it down, unfortunately I don't remember what it is called, but I sure would like to have one. This is scratchbuilt by the way (obviously).
Picture
This is just a great looking tracked-prime mover. The detail is beautiful and it boasts a beautiful late war paint job as well. Really sharp.
Picture
Plenty of room in the bed for troops and stowage and Hans had it all decked out. I was really impressed with the size of this baby and the detail. If you are headed to the Russian Front, don't leave home without one.
Picture
There was detail inside the cab as well and room for two figures. Once again, nice vehicle Hans, thanks for bringing it.

Maddog Cpl. treated us to four figures that he had bashed since the Ft. Thomas show. Four German figures First up were an Afrika Korps soldier and a Waffen SS Trooper.
Picture
I really like Maddog's Afrika Korps figures and this latest one is a great looking machine gunner. He has inspired me to do some of my own eventually. All I need is a little time. Next up are another Waffen SS soldier and a Gebirgsjager.
Picture
These two figures look great too, actually much better up close and personal. My pictures really don't do them justice. Nice job Maddog, you will need to fill us in on the details.

Next up is a line of Nurses put together by Dr. Zorkon. I don't know where he finds the outfits for these figures, but these look great. A cool look at Nurses of the 20th and 21st Century.
Picture
The good doctor also provided us with this great looking Christmas vignette to get us all into the spirit of the season. That is a famous fat Field Marshall under that Santa Suit. You would have never known. Great job Doc.
Picture
And that is about it for this meeting. There were a pretty good number of us there, but most of us didn't bring anything for show and tell. Still it was a great meeting and there was some great stuff to see. Hope to see everyone at the January meeting. That's all for the update tonight, until next time, have a good one!

MEETING NIGHT 10/13...

10/14/2010

Hey Campers, had our monthly meeting last night and I thought I would deliver a report and post a few pictures from the meet. Sorry there was no update on Tuesday night, I had some technical difficulties that I still haven't figured out, but hopefully everything will be back to normal tonight. Without further delay...LAST NIGHT'S MEETING...
Picture
Picture
Dr. Zorkon sort of stole the show last night with this huge diorama that I am calling Zorkon's Gym. A combination of bashed items and some limited run Internet finds, this Gym has got everything you need for your 1/6th body builders.

Picture
Picture
Picture
MADDOG CPL had a line of Waffen SS Soldiers on hand and they sure looked good. I love those camo smocks. No doubt about it, SS guys definitely had the best uniforms. This is one smart looking unit.

Picture
Right next door to MADDOG's Supermen was Trooper Paul's tribute to U.S. Presidents, which I am calling Hall of Presidents for lack of a better name, though Turnstile of Presidents might be a better description.
Picture
According to Paul, this is still sort of a work in progress, but when it's done it should be pretty cool. He doesn't have all the US Presidents, but he has pretty much all the ones that have been made so far. The whole thing turns so that you can view each president up close and personal (don't get too close to Bill there, if you know what I mean).
Picture
The evening seemed to be mostly about buying, selling and trading, there was a lot of stuff there to dig through...
Picture
Picture
Picture
Getting back to figures, Trooper Tim did these Hasbro Star Wars figures and sort of customized them to create some unique expanded universe type figures. I like the weathering on that stormtrooper.

Picture
He also did this really unique futuristic looking warrior. I like the hand painted camo that he did on the various armor pieces and helmet, that must have taken a considerable amount of time. Nice Job!

Picture
Panzercommander and I tried to get in a little shoot featuring his Italians and my British Marmon Herrington armored car in a desert scene. Above is what it looked like under the lights. Below is the finished scene.
Picture
Picture
You will be seeing more of this shoot on Sunday night when I show a few more shots from the shoot as a way of introducing our newest set of Printables, The Italian Collection. Our selection of printables continue to grow. Featured at left are three sets that I displayed last night; The Indiana Jones Collection, The German Collection and part of the new Italian Collection.

It was a great, great evening. We had a lot of members there and we all had a real good time. Wish everyone lived close enough to join us. Well, that's all for this UPDATE, until next time, have a good one!

MEETING NIGHT - September 8th

9/9/2010

Well...Wednesday night we had another great meeting. It was definitely great for Dr. Zorkon because he sold quite a bit of stuff during the evening. As I was the recipient of some of that merchandise, I felt like it was a pretty good night for me as well. Well, here are a few pictures for those of you who couldn't make it. We start with Point Man's Vietnam stuff.
Picture
Picture
Point Man built a teaser display of 1:1 and 1:6th Vietnam stuff, a taste of what he will be doing down at Ft. Thomas in November. The display featured a lot of his 1:1 scale printable items, a uniform and gear, M-79 Thumper and a flak Jacket. He also brought some of the characters from his Vietnam Story comic.

Picture
Hammer Six did a really cool set up, featuring a couple of his kitchen wagons, accessories and troops. I've got to tell you, he has got some cool stuff here.
Picture
Picture
One of the kitchen wagons started out as a kit and the other is the Cyber Hobbies piece. I can tell you from seeing both of them up close and personal that they are both outstanding models and Hammer Six has done a great job of painting, weathering and detailing them.

Picture
I know that you all would probably like to see more of this display and you will eventually as it is going to be the subject of an upcoming UPDATE. There is quite a bit more detail to show.
Picture
Hammer Six also brought this great looking Horsh for the rest of us to drool over and his sd.kfz 222 armored car as well (below). He has got the best toys hand down.
Picture
This is his Taowan 222, reviewed elsewhere on this site. It really turned out sharp. His painting and weathering are top notch. For being in questionable shape when he got it... it has turned into an absolutely beautiful model.

Below Trooper Tim did this rather scary looking zombie type thing. I'm not exactly sure what the story is behind the figure, but it gives me the willies.
Picture
Picture
This was the evening's reminder from Tim's mother, Nancy, that fall is upon us and all things Football are starting up again. I saw these Football Robots the other day at the local Kroger. They are pretty interesting.

Picture
...And we finish out the night with just a quick shot of some of the stuff that Dr. Zorkon had for sale last night. I was pleased to pick up some Sideshow Indiana Jones figures from him. It was a good night. Well, that is all for this evening, until next time, have a good one.

Monthly SSCC Meeting for 8/11/2010

8/12/2010

Well, last night we had our monthly meeting (see our contact page for more information about meeting times). We had a smaller group than normal, but it was a real good meeting even with fewer numbers. I've got a few pictures of the highlights here. We're going to start with some figures by the EVIL DR. ZORKON.
Picture
I've got an UPDATE coming up specifically on DR. ZORKON. This guy is amazing, not only his ability to put together unique figures, but also the imagination to dream them up in the first place. We start out with a pair of Golfers. I don't know anything about golf, but it looks like more modern figure and then a golfer from the '40's.

Picture
Picture
Next, we've got this really great looking pirate. The Good Doctor put this one together for like $5 or some incredibly low amount like that. He is a master at finding great deals on items and seeing how they are going to all go together to make a unique figure. When I saw this figure, the books of Robert Lewis Stevenson came to mind, Treasure Island and Kidnapped.

Picture
Picture
I am not really to familiar with this figure, but I understand it is the godfather. I really like that little table and the chairs. The Doctor is always finding little pieces like this to create neat little vignettes.

Picture
And how about this bench. This thing is like two feet long. It would be perfect for creating the setting of a train station platform (in just about any era). The Doctor paid next to nothing for this great find as well. I tried to keep from drooling on it. And yes, that is Donald Trump taking a much needed rest on the bench.

Picture
Next we have beautiful cannon and limber from General Paul. This is a real beauty. I like how he had it displayed with a team on an American flag. It really looked sharp.

Picture
Picture
He also made this great looking Naval Cannon. It would look pretty good with Dr. Zorkon's Pirate I think. I am waiting to see the ship Paul.

Picture
Paul's wife, Nancy had this Buckeye Football Player on Display. I like the neat little stand that he is displayed on. Pretty sharp. I am not really a Buckeye's fan (don't tell anyone), but I thought this was a real cool figure.

Picture
Paul's son, Trooper Tim, put together this little vignette of a couple of "law enforcement types". I am not sure if these figures are from show or something, but I really like his setting with the floor and wall. It creates a nice scene.
Picture
Here Tim has created another interesting little vignette with what looks like some swap meet tables or a toy show. I am not sure exactly what the theme was, but it was a nice job of finding some "toy" sized items that could be used as well... toys.

Picture
The LT, Sergeants Washington and Watkins, and Doc Thompson from VIETNAM STORY put in an appearance as well. The lugged in a few of the sandbags that Mrs. Pointman is making for Firebase Cooper (she's got a long way to go).

It was my evening to do some demos. I did a little demo on working with the "printables" featured on this site and a second little demo on 1:1 paper items -weathering and distressing. The picture below shows some of the items that I have done for my Vietnam impression. In the corner there you can also see the 1:1 scale version of Doc's Diary and Photo Album.
Picture
It was a great club meeting and those of us that were there missed all of the club members that couldn't make it for one reason or another. If you are ever in the Cincinnati area on the second Wednesday of the month, be sure to stop in, we would all like to get to know you. That's all for tonight, until next time, have a good one!

FRIDAY UPDATE - Meeting Night, July 14th

7/15/2010

I was far too tired to get these pictures put together last night when I got home from Cincinnati. I did get them done today and here are some of the highlights from the meeting on Wednesday. I am going to try to do one of these after every meeting from now on so that folks who couldn't make it can at least see what went on.

It was a good meeting. The big news was that the folks with the Sherman Tank are interested in coming down for the Ft.Thomas show if we can work out the transportation costs. Hammer Six and I are trying to work that out. The other big news is that it looks as though there will be approximately two thousand school children going through the exhibit Wednesday through Friday. That is going to be a handful, but very exciting at the same time. Sounds like we have got two vendors for sure and some other displays (not 1:6th) that are really going to round out the entire event. I am very excited about it.

You will notice guys in the morning that the blog is getting away from echoing the email UPDATE. I think the blog is about ready to stand on it's own and I am sort of getting down a routine. The email Update has only got about two more weeks and I am planning to announce the existence of the blog to some other folks.  Hope everyone has a great weekend. Until next time, have a good one!
