Motor Pool...

As I continue to think about that Dragon Panzer, I decided to reflect for a few moments on what my current German motor pool looks like. It is neither particularly great modeling, nor is there a whole lot of it and it is definitely "late war".

First up is my Kubelwagen. It started out as a 21st Century Toys vehicle. I raised the body  about a half inch so that it looked a little more correct with my schwimmwagen (probably should have lowered the schwimmer actually). I added quite few details, but it is still not in the same league as the  Dragon version.

This is my schwimmwagen. It is your basic 21st Century vehicle. I made a few basic modifications to it, but nothing radical. I didn't cut it apart and radically change it, it was just small stuff; extra details, a scratchbuilt radio. I based it on a vehicle that was featured in modeling magazine. Certainly not up to the quality of a Dragon schwimmer, but it is a good basic vehicle and it works well with my 6th SS troops.

This is my Hetzer. CK2 is always giving me a hard time about not finishing it (standing joke we have). Actually, it is "finished", about as finished as any vehicle ever is. There are quite a lot of mods I would like to do to this one. I just need some solid time to put in on it. This is an old Mardon Callenta vehicle, so it's pretty well crafted, but it is fairly basic and it could use some serious detailing to become a really great looking vehicle.

This is of course my pride and joy; my sd.kfz 250/3, finished as an SS vehicle. This baby has been heavily modified and it is all done with what I had on hand. There are no after-market parts on this half-track. I probably have about two hundred hours in this model and of course when I look at it, I see a lot of flaws, but I am still fairly proud of it.

My motor pool, as you can see, is all late war and of course the Panzer II is an early war vehicle. I really don't have a whole lot of early war stuff. It is going to be a lot fun to put together a small early war unit. I am having a lot of fun thinking about it and planning it.

Well, hope you enjoyed seeing some of my favorite vehicles, until next time, have a good one!

I think you've got a great motorpool Point Man! I give you guys a hard time about not having anything in grey to go with my troops - but hey - the camo stuff looks good as well!

My German motorpool isn't big at all either - two Dragon Kubelwagens, three 21st C motorcycles with sidecars, and one 21st C motorcycle without side car.

To round out the reconnaissance unit (basically the motorcycles) I'd like to upgrade all of the motorcycles to proper BMW or Zundapps and not the 21st C mix-matched German motorcycles. I'm eyeing the metal Zundapps from a guy in Singapore but I don't really want to spend the money required to make the switch.

Ideally I'd like to have a Sd.Kfz. 222 armored car and a Sd.Kfz. 250/3 radio halftrack to round out the recon unit.

I'd like to add the following armor at some point:

a Panzer III Ausf. G

a Panzer IV Ausf. E or F

a 38(t)

And I'd like an Opel Blitz truck at some point as well.

Naturally all of these pieces are to be in grey...

I use to have one of the Opel Blitz kits (I don't remember who made them), but I finally ended up giving it away in a trade. I had it for like four years and never took it out of the box. I am sure it would have made a great looking model, but it was pretty complicated. Not particularly sorry after I saw how big a DeSimmone one was. For a little truck, it takes up a lot of space in 1:6th. I have been talking to Dick about the idea of building a Stoewer 40 kfz.2 radio car. It looks like it would be fairly straightforward build, but I am not sure what to do about tires. I am not a real good judge of size, but it looks like you could use the wheels and quite a few other parts off of a kubel, but I don't have an extra one to sacrifice. Guess I will just keep my eye out for a cheapo.

Well lets see, from 21st I have 2 gray kubels, and one DAK, 2 gray ketts, I traded the DAK off a couple years ago. A camo schwm, and a DAK. one motorcycle w/sidecar one without, and the PJ 222 that is really messed up and has WAY to much money sunk into it lol.

My wish list these days is a train engine, a passenger car, a caboose, a stagecoach, a buckboard, and a covered wagon lol

OK I think you've got a great German motorpool.

I think your wish list should be longer in the western railroad department - let's get creative and say:

1 locomotive and tender - like Jupiter or the Central Pacific locomotive at the golden spike ceremony when the Trans-Continental Railroad was linked.

1 combine car - half baggage car half mail car

1 full passenger car

1 box car

1 flat car

1 caboose

I think that would round out your railroad pretty well.

You realize you could actually buy the rideable live steam sized engines and rolling stock for a 1:6th railroad right?

I've taken some photos of my figures on a live steam outdoor layout before and it worked out pretty well.

when I hit the lottery and have my 100x100 steel building built and hire a professional crew to build me a new town I'll add that to the list lol

It is nice to see your SS vehicles.
You have a nice collection.
I think your sd.kfz 250/3 is my favorite!
Thanks for the pics.

Shawn.

True - but you could start planning now though - right?

BTW: should that happen I'll probably demand to come up and visit so I can play with the train.

Nice motor pool ther PM. Love your eye candy and attention to detail.

In regards to the Stower........methinks I know how we can get the wheels. HansAlbin has been wanting to make a mold of the tire on my Horch. The Horch was in the medium to heavy class personnel vehicles I think the Stower may fit the same catagory (Some where in this mass of mess of mine I have a book on this glass of vehicles but haven't been able to find it.

I'd love to join you and maybe we could make several....I think PCHOH would join the bandwagon.

BTW the Hetzer is nice!
