1 July, 1942 - The First Battle of El Alamein
Rommel briefs officers of the Fifth Panzer Regiment of the 21st Panzer Division on the impending attack against the British line. Rommel paused between the Aufklärung Abteilung (reconnaissance battalion) and the leichte Panzer Abteilung (light tank battalion) for the briefing. Fuel trucks have been brought up for the leichte Panzer Abteilung and they take advantage of the pause in the advance to refuel. A Propagandatrupp consisting of a Kriegsberichter (war correspondent) and his assistant film the scene for their next „Die Deutsche Wochenschau“ newsreel submittal, prematurely titled „SIEG IN AFRIKA“ (Victory in Africa). Rommel’s advance into Egypt has reached its zenith, though no one knows it yet.
